Editor’s Note
In August 2015, the island of Saipan was devastated by Typhoon Soudelor, a Category 5 storm that destroyed land, buildings, infrastructure, and countless homes. However, the resolve of Saipan’s residents never wavered throughout these trying times and ultimately it was the strength of this resilient island community that became the main story following the typhoon. This year, the Humanities Council on Saipan hosted a film festival where local residents submitted documentary-style videos of their typhoon experiences. Here is one of the videos that was submitted to this year’s film festival.
