A Poem by Kiesha Duenas Photos by Dan Lin
This is what the horizon will look like
Canoes as far as the eye can see Sails raised high
Outriggers gliding across the sparkling ocean
The sun shines bright in the big blue sky
Reflections on the water look like
The stars from above
And as each wave crashes onto the shore
More people swim towards the reef
A thing from our past
We will bring back into our lives
A thing we were once known for
We will be known for again
Our culture has not died
And it never will
We will stay as strong
As the latte stones that once held up our homes
Remember those 500 sails
That once surrounded the island
Eye the horizon
And one day
We’ll see them again
